If only my mind would be so kind as to rustle up this kind of discourse when I'm sick and/or sleepy! I can't write like this when I'm coherent :)

Dark and a little icky though it may be, I enjoyed this! Which is saying something, given the fact that I dislike Ruby intensely. I do think that you write her with her intended spunk and snark, though, and that's probably why I was able to get into this. Lines like this, for example:

“Pay attention,” she says. “I’m not going to evil monologue for my own benefit.”

I could almost hear Katie Cassidy delivering. S4 Ruby dialogue has differed so much from S3 and I'm just not down with it. If there is one thing that I miss about the character it's her abrasive quality and her ability to push Sam's buttons and I loved that you captured that here; her words and insinuations bothered him a lot more than any physical pain.
