unreckless: (SPN - Dean & Castiel)

It's not bragging if it's true. I got [livejournal.com profile] crack_impala'd. So... yeah. Yay me!

Watchmen seemed much less... laughable this second time. Maybe it's because I was by myself and one of maybe eight people in the whole theater (who, predictably, didn't get any of the historical references-- the "Who the fuck are these people? What does this have to do with anything?" comments they made during the fabulous montage at the beginning made me want to cry). I found myself thinking a lot about the timeline this viewing, too.

So Sally was 37-ish when Laurie was born? That's...old, especially for that era.

And exactly what term is Nixon on, anyway? I mean, '69-'72, '73-'76, '77-'80 and '81-'84 makes four, which they state specifically, but the movie's in '85 and he's still president. And Hollis Mason says, "I voted for that prick five times," which I take to mean he voted for him in 1960 as well (when Nixon was defeated by Kennedy, since Mason doesn't exactly seem the Kennedy-voting type, y'know?) as those other four elections ('68, '72, '76, '80). I left my book at school, of course, so I have to wait 'til Sunday to look it up. Annoying.

Oh, and the hovercraft sex? Still hilarious.

Anyway, here's the court-appointed psychiatrist!Castiel and inmate!Dean comment fic exactly as it was posted here.

This is why he went suffered through med school, through his internship and residency. This is why he's counseled rich white girls who won't eat and old men who won't let go and alcoholics and attempted suicides. This is the kind of case you sit in your Intro to Psych class and dream about, exploring the psychopathology of a guy like this.

The guy is endlessly fascinating. He grew up in a series of foster homes, then group homes when he became too much to handle, and by the time he was getting caught smoking or having sex on junior high school property he'd been through nine caseworkers. His file was an inch and three-quarters thick.

Castiel exchanges barely four sentences with the guy before he's got an idea of what's going on in that not bad-looking head, and he wonders how this Winchester case has been so spectacularly mishandled.

"Sorry, Castiel," Anna had said when she handed him the file, "but you're kind of the low man on the totem pole, you know? Parker threatened to hang himself if he had to be on this case one second longer, and I can't put Uriel on this one."

"Why not?" Castiel had asked, flipping open the folder. When he looked up again, Anna was across the room, standing in the doorway to her office. They nodded to each other. This was exactly the kind of guy who got right under Uriel's skin and festered, and Uriel was exactly the kind of guy this Winchester character liked to piss off.

Above average intelligence, the reports read. Excellent at solving problems. Antisocial personality disorder.

One report, from when Winchester was sixteen years and five months old, simply said Scary. It recommended institutionalization.

Castiel loves a challenge.

"So tell me about your parents, Dean," Castiel says to the man on the other side of the table.

Winchester says nothing, just keeps picking at his cuticles. They're all ragged, a few of them bloody. He stares at the wall a lot. Sometimes he tugs at the collar of his shirt.

And sometimes he talks.

Castiel expects to be able to tell when he's lying eventually. They've got a long time to get to know each other, at least.

It could, of course, be a part of that forensic anthropology AU I've been thinking about for big bang. Which, just what I need, another potential big bang.

*headdesk*
